Spring Cleaning - Kitchen

This week has been a long one, but I did manage to complete a room for spring cleaning. My kitchen started out like this:

The cabinet by the fridge is our catch all. Everything coming into or no longer in use gets set there. Anywhoo....I dusted the ceiling & the ceiling fan, washed all the cabinets and baseboards, scrubbed all the counters and put everything away, mopped the floors and finally my kitchen now looks like this:

I did wash the curtains, but did not get them ironed and back up before the picture. Also this week I got both of our upstairs bathrooms deep cleaned, but did not take any pictures. Good luck on everyone else's spring cleaning! Have a great weekend!!

This week I have seen some amazing works of art. Found so great how to, and a wonderful pizza dough recipe (I have tried this and the recipe, credit, and picture will come in a later post).

The Ultimate Blog Party

Please join me in The Ultimate Blog Party being hosted by 5 minutes for MomsUltimate Blog Party 2008
I dated this ahead so it would stay at the top this week!

SO let me introduce myself to you all; I am Lisa mother to 2 girls ALI 9, LU 16, & 1 boy JA 2. We have just began our trial and error approach to homeschool. It has be an adventure and honestly we are loving it!! I have been married to the most wonderful husband JON, for 12 years now, and the support and love of this man continue to empower me to be a better wife for him.

This is my blog where I record for friends and family tid bits of our daily life and happenings. I soon home to add an organizing label and a homeschool label. Homeschool for use so far has been trying to mimic school, using Abeka books. We are quickly learing that sitting for hours doing worksheet after worksheet is not working for us...thus the trial and error referenced above :O).

Anywho...I have been enjoying blog reading for about a year and just decided to venture out on my own with a blog. This is a learning experience for me, as I venture to share a little of my Wonderful World!!

God Bless!

Financial Peace University

I know I blogged about this before, but I wanted to lay out our family's plan:

  • Tonight we cut up all credit cards and put away our debit cards. We are going to use cash only. (Debit cards are not credit cards I understand, but the mentality behind them is similar and makes spending too easy).

  • Baby step one was effected by small emg - so we will have our $1,000 EMG fund in the bank by mid April.

  • Will have smallest debt paid in full by May 1, 2008.

Dave Ramsey's plan is a very simple one. His advise is great and I hope that my family and I can stick to a true budget, and get out of debt.

Please pray for us as we begin this financial quest.

I hope EVERYONE has enjoyed the blog party as much as me!!! Have a blessed Friday!

Obama an Indian ?

As I was quizzing ALI over our history lesson today, Ben Franklin:

MOM: What was the book Franklin wrote that was a calendar with other info in it?

ALI: Poor Obama's Almanac?

MOM: (laughing) ~ Not Obama - Richard

ALI: Oh that's right Obama was the Indian we studied last week..

MOM: (laughing harder) ~ No Obama is one of the candidates in the democratic race for president.

ALI: (dead serious) Well I know that mom! I just thought he had an Indian relative.

My husband will wonder what I am teaching our children!!! :O)

Off for a little shoe shopping for JA & ALI!! Have a blessed Thursday!

Have a great heart warming day blog sisters!!

Monday, Friday...Oh Thursday

We are all so confused on the day. This week has been busy busy busy, and it is taking its effects on my family. This morning no one wanted to get up and now those of us at home are dragging. At this rate we may not even get to homeschool stuff until lunch. Yawn Yawn .. Stretch. I feel a little better.

I wanted to share some of what we learned last night in Financial Peace University. This is a program at our church to help us get on a budget and get out of debt. It really is basic truths, but some of us have forgotten or changed those truths to our advantage. Have you ever heard "money is the root of all evil" this is how I always heard this statement. I never even new it was scripture. The true verse reads "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" 1 Timothy 6:10 NIV. Funny how the truth gives a completly different spin on my view. No not a spin but shows me the truth. Please visit http://www.daveramsey.com/ to learn more or to find a program in your area.

First things first are the baby steps.

1. $1,000 emergency fund (not a pizza, movie, new shoes fund) - JON and I are fortunate that we have our $1,000 fund in place already.

2. Pay off all debt except the house - using the debt snowball - This is where JON and I will begin our journey. This meaning that we must STOP using all credit cards, lines of credit, small loans, etc.

3. 3-6 mths of expenses saved.

4. Invest 15% of our income for retirement.

5. College Funding

6. Pay off home early

7. Build wealth and give!

So JON and I have to look at our lives and decide where we can cut the most and start our debt snowball rolling. Any extra money we recieve or JON is able to make we must make it a priority to put it toward our debt. We listed our debts smallest to largest and will attack the smallest one first ... then apply the amount we were paying that one to our snowball to attack the next so that our snowball grows. Please pray for us. This is a challenge we must as a family complete, for our own peace of mind and hearts.

God Bless!

First Payday

LU has gotten her first paycheck. She is and should be proud of herself. We are so proud of her and all she does. SUBWAY has an excellent employee if you ask me. Anyway today is a busy Saturday but I wanted to share our joy. FYI: She is saving to buy a car at 18 (we will not let her have one until then), and paying her insurance at a whopping $40 bucks a month.

Have a great Saturday! God Bless!!
