Goodwill shopping!!

I have to say I typically love shopping at goodwill or thrift stores. Today was no exception. We had about 45 mins to kill this afternoon and headed to Goodwill. I got some of the best ever deals. I purchased 3 denim skirts for me, 1 pair of jeans and a new doll for Allison, a pair of sleep shorts and a book for Lindsey, a bakset that I will spray paint and give as a Christmas gift, and for Jack he got the best toy ever according to him. It was a Buzz Light Year. The toy was only $1.91 and he has carried and played with it all day. If he never touches it again it was worth it. :>) My grand total for my day of shopping was a whopping $22.00 Check out some of my purchases...

What we are having for lunch!!!

This was my attempt at homemade lunchables. My kids always want to get those for lunch, so I deciede we could make out own and make them more fun. We cut out shapes from our bologna in the shape of fall leaves, & pumpkins. Just a fun lunch. Allison said it was way better than the boxed ones :O) ... One Point for Mom!!! Have a great day!!!

Next on my project list

I am currently working on a cross stitch project that I must finish first, but then I think I am going to try this rag quilt. It looks so simple. Bear in mind I do not have a sewing machine so this will all be done by hand. I think I will try a baby blanket so that the siz is smaller. Maybe for Christmas I will get a sewing machine :O) hint hint ....to mom & mawmaw :O)

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Fun for Friday!!!

Small Spaz and Graduation Update

First the Spaz report. This morning Allison & Jack went out to the car to get Allison's book and somehow Jack's fingers got shut in the door. I know that it hurt. The scream he let out sent me over the edge. I flew down the stairs...yes flew...grabbed him up. He had laid in the floor screaming and jerking around. I had know idea what was wrong. Allison was so upset she could not tell me, then I saw his hand. It was swollen and bleeding a little from a cut, and turning blue already. So I panic as any mom would do...or at least as I can do. Grabbed him started yelling grabbed the ice pack called hubby advised him to get home and what was happening ....Yes I made the situation FAR FAR worse than it needed to be. I over reacted terribly. The verdict after getting to the doctor, and having 3 x-rays was that his hand will be fine. Bruised and sore for the next few days but fine. No cracked finger or joints all is well.

Breathing more easily now.... the graduation update. Yes Lindsey is graduating a year early and so we are now behind all the other seniors. We registered to take the SAT test on 10/4 which is the earliest she can take it, and looked at her top choices for colleges online to get and idea of the expense of living on campus which is her wish at the moment. Senior portraits retake will be in September and cap & gown and invitation orders are coming up. I may have another spaz attack just thinking of all this. Anyway this is just an update.....I will keep y'all posted as we get the info.

I hope everyone is having a good Friday!!

Today in History

Well maybe not today in history, but what we are covering ..... In history this year we are using The Story of the World Vol I by Bauer. Today we made Cuneiform Clay Tablets like the Egyptians did long ago, before they used paper. We have been studying the Egyptians and enjoying there history and thought we would try our hand at their early form of writing. Yes we discussed the use of Hieroglyphics, but Allison and I both agree that Cuneiform looks easier and so we attempted to replicate it on some clay. Enjoy our pictures:

Allison showing her cuneiform - it's hard to read like this...A better shot of Allison's - It reads "ALS (her initials) was here". She quickly realized that cuneiform was hard to and decided to use her initials to make it shorter. She said cuneiform takes up a lot of room and uses too many tools. It is easier to write with a pencil.Allison & mine - Mine is on the pink playdough it says MOMJack's not sure what to do with the playdough. Now he's got it!!!
Have a great Friday!!!

Botany - Light Hut

Our science studies this year are through Apologia's Botany book. We are enjoying all the projects and fun things to do in this book. We just built our light hut and hopefully we can get somethings to grow. We have planted pumpkins seeds and basil, so we will see how it goes. Enjoy our pictures of Allison building her light hut:

Allison and our supplies to get started
Cutting a hole in the butter bowl lid to hold the light bulb in place
Carefully cutting air vents in our box
Glue for the foil that covers the inside of our box

Securing the light & socket to the box We have a lighted hut Allison showing off the finished product, foil curtains on the outside and all. She was very proud of her work, and she did it all pretty much by herself. I directed and supervised, but she did the work!!!
Hope you enjoyed our pictures!!!

Allison's Chocolate Chip Cookies

This was her first attempt at making chocolate chip cookies.

They were YUMMY ... and did not last the evening :OP
Looks like we have a great cook on our hands!!! Good job kiddo!!!

Wordless Wednesday

I know my hubby enjoys my blog when we find something like our friend here in the backyard and the first thing my husband says when I take a picture is that would be great for Wordless Wednesday. :O) Y'all have a great Wednesday!!!!

Way to go Jack!!!!!

Junior to Senior in 30 minutes

My beautiful 16 year old Lindsey started school on August 7,2008. This was to be her Junior year. Still a full 2 years from college. Another full school year from her Senior year. Mom still breathing easy at this point.

Lindsey comes home from school on Friday the 8th and advises me that at the end of this school year she will have 25.5 credits, and since the state of Georgia lowered graduation requirements from 28 to 23 credits to graduate Lindsey will be able to graduate this year.

That's right all confirmed with the school and everything. Junior to Senior like that. I still have whiplash!!! This new development puts us behind. We must take the SAT, Grad Exam, and all the fun Senior stuff...like pictures, invitations, class rings, etc. WOW~~~

But seriously, I am so proud of her I could bust!!! She has worked so hard all her life. Always exceeding any ideas we had of what our daughter would do. She is simply amazing. Sounds like we are months away from out little LU graduating!!

Way to go!!! We love you and are so proud of you!!!

Love,

Mom, Dad, Allison, & Jack

New Wreath

I went to Michael's Craft Store today with coupon in hand to purchase Lindsey her Course 2 Wilton Cake Kit. Of Course they are out so I must use the coupon on something else :O).

I did use the coupon on some clay that Allison, Jack, and I are going to use to make cuneiform tablets with tom morrow so the coupon did not go to waste!!! BUT I also picked up a few other items. I got a grapevine wreath that was on sale some ribbon and flower picks and decided that I would make a wreath for our front door. Keep in mind I have never done this, but I am proud of my creation. I wrapped the wreath with the ribbon then cut the flowers off the picks. I realized about half way thru it would probably be easier to stick the flowers thru had I not cut off the stems, but owell remember first time here. Anyhoo ... you get the idea and with out further ado here is the final product!!!

I hope it dose not look to fall like .... I was going for late summer :O)

Have a great day!!!!

Finally Friday!!!

I am glad the weekend has arrived. This is the last weekend before Lindsey starts back to school in her Junior year!! I am sure this weekend we will be doing some clothing shopping. She has already gotten most of her supplies and ordered a couple of things over the Internet but she says she is still in need of some shirts. So a shopping we will go!!!

Allison has just completed her second week of homeschooling and so far is doing great. We are using Apologia's Botany book this year and start our light hut Monday if all goes well :O). Hopefully by next weekend I will have pictures to post of the light hut.

Jack is busy in school too!! He wants to do school with Allison when she does school so we have been coloring our ABC's and starting on number recognition. He knows A is for Apple and B is for Ball so that is a good start for a 2.5 year old.

This weekend we have my niece Riley's 3rd birthday on Sunday, and other than that I am going to rest up, because Thursday we start getting up early and driving to school again... YUCK! I really have enjoyed sleeping in this summer!!! This will take some getting use to :O(

Welcome to the first day of August everyone!!! It will be no time and it will be fall, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas!!! Boy I need to get busy. I only have 3 gifts purchased for the holidays and a lot to get purchased!!!

Take notice of my new countdown it is my countdown to my cruise. My wonderful hubby and I are going on a cruise in October for our Anniversary/Christmas gift. I know October is not December, but my mom can not take off the keep the kidlets then, so we are going in October. It will still be warm enough to swim and stuff then :O) I can not wait!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!
