Simple Woman's Day Book

FOR TODAY : Monday, April 20, 2009

Outside my window... It looks grey and wet :O(

I am thinking... about how to get the house ready before Lindsey's graduation.

I am thankful for... my husband, my children, and all that we have been blessed with

From the learning rooms... this week we have some math review and a section in language that I would really like to finish up before our CAT test next week. Also we are finishing up our states study this week and will have a big test Friday on states, capitals, and abbreviations.

From the kitchen... my kitchen is clean because I have not cooked a thing this morning. I forced my children to eat cereal with way too much sugar or poptarts....bad mother moment here (I actually love that marshmellow cereal :O) later today I plan to cook some chocolate chip cookies....today is not sounding too healthy huh? I promise the rest of the week gets better!!

I am wearing... long sleeve white t-shirt, olive green shorts, no shoes or socks.

I am creating... creating hmmmm?!?!? nothing comes to mind at the moment!!

I am going... no plans this week....really need to buckle down and take care of some school things before the CAT test because after that we will only have 8 days left!!!

I am reading... Blessings, The Taming of the Shrew, & lots of Thomas the Train books

I am hoping... to get the trim on the front of my house painted before graduation.

I am hearing... birds chirping, and the train whistle.

Around the house...weekend mess faces me, lots of laundry, sounds like a busy busy week!!

One of my favorite things... warm chocolate chip cookies & dr pepper

A few plans for the rest of the week: If we have any sun this week I plan on painting the what I kilzed this weekend, and I would like to get the grass cut. As well as lots and lots of cleaning!!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

Have an excellent week everyone!!!

Planning for next year

Ok I have been planning for a while what I was going to use next year for homeschool.

Allison will be in 5th grade, and Jack is only 3 but enjoys school so we are going try a couple of things for him to do school!

Allison :
Language, Spelling, Penmanship - Abeka 5
Math - Abeka 5
Science - Switched on Schoolhouse
History - Switched on Schoolhouse
Reading - will be various books, right now I only have one planned and re-read and that is Old Yeller - I plan on us reading this and then watching the movie after reading. Other than that I have not nailed anything down for sure, but have several ideas.

Jack:
I ordered for him Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons, & Get Ready for the Code Book A. I am also planning on taking alot of ideas from a couple of blogs with preschoolers. I know Jack is only 3, but he see Allison sit down for school and I would like to be able to incorporate him into more of the things we do also.

We will see!!!

I also plan on teaching both Sign Language and have ordered a couple of books for this, if it is in the budget we will try Rosetta Stones Spanish, but it is quite pricey and we will have to see a little closer to time!

That's the plan so far!!

Our new Homeschool Classroom

I have been trying to find that place in our house where we can homeschool and make it work.

We have tried the dining room table...which works well but means that my book case needs to be in the dining room and that we can not leave things that we are working on out, and that every time we need to eat everything has to come off the table....so the hunt was on for a better location.

We tried a spare bedroom that we use as a storage room usually, but found that it was too small for Jack to play while we school, plus it seems that the room is always cold no matter what we do, so it went back to a storage room.
Then Jonathan and I decided that we would transform our living room downstairs in to the perfect classroom. The room downstairs is great. I have room for our bookcases, my white board is on the wall, and Jack has room for a toy box and his car tent ...just in case he does not want to do school. We have been working down there for about a month and it seems to be working perfectly. Our office is just off this room so we have quick access to the family computer for printing, and my craft closet is also close by. So having everything with in quick reach has made schooling wonderful.
Now I know I am so, and it only took us a year and a half of schooling to figure this out, but I think having our own space downstairs just for homeschool things is wonderful!!
This picture is a panoramic view showing the car tent, the table we work at, you can also see our reading couch, bookcases, and have a view into the office.

Allison is really enjoying this space, because we can leaving what we are working on out and nothing gets lost or bent and it is all right where we need it when we need it!!Jack needed his picture taken also showing off his picture he made with his stamps. (you can see the car tent behind him).
