Weekly Wrap Up (week # 1)

My this week has flown by.  We began 2nd grade and 9th grade on Monday.  Opening comments from my daughter (9th grade) is this is all the books I have.  Really?!?!  Oh my .... It is wonderful to have one so excited that she thinks she doesn't have enough books!

My son (2nd grade)  went well for him this week.  He really enjoyed Teaching Textbooks 3 and did 2 lessons a couple of days.  Also we started All About Spelling 1 and All About Reading 1 both went well and will reinforce phonics for him to help his reading. 

The week was pretty simple really.  Our schedule ran pretty smooth and we didn't really go anywhere except church and piano lessons on Wednesday, and the library on Thursday.  This weekend we have a surprise planned to take the kids to the Roller Derby on Saturday.  I am really excited as well I have never seen one and the kids have no idea we are going! 

Tomorrow before the Roller Derby Allison &  I have a baby shower to attend at church.  Baby showers are always so much fun to me, I love to look at all the little things so sweet!

Weekly Wrap Up

Okay the week after Spring Break started back slowly!  I let Jack and Allison both sleep really late Monday.  Then when everyone got up and got moving we still drug around.  We made it through Bible and once we were singing Hymns which we do as part of our Bible time everyone had perked up.  Monday went easy after this point and Jack and I still finished before lunch.  Allison was able to get everything done except History, and we worked on that after lunch.

Tuesday, Wednesday both went pretty well although it has turned off really cold and warms up in the afternoon only to freeze us again at night...yep time for us to be sick.  This always happens when the weather does crazy things.  Poor Jack is so stuffy I can not understand some of the words he says when he is reading.  He got a little crabby Wednesday when I kept correcting him and he was saying the correct word ... oops.

Thursday was a little better our stuffy noes seem some better.  We woke up to 30 degrees this am and my flowers are dead, but school went smoothly and we all got done before lunch.  We made chocolate chip cookies and had Chinese take out for dinner < a favorite of all!!!

Friday - we have sailed through today.  This is our lightest day of the week and we spent some time cleaning and getting things ready for the weekend.

Now I am stretched out on the couch typing this listening to the kids play outside in the sunshine.  A nice way to end the week!  I plan to look through some of my curriculum catalogs that have come in this week to start planning next year!

Weekly Wrap Up & The Homeschool Mother's Journal

This week has been a nice after Thanksgiving Break week.

Monday - We slept in and then got up had breakfast and then cleaned the house top to bottom. Thanksgiving weekend left things a bit messy after putting all the Christmas decorations up we had boxes everywhere and things needed to be straightened and put away. School was done after lunch and all went smoothly. It was a dark and rainy day so after school we played a few games and vegged out on the couches.

Tuesday - School went as planned - we are light between now and Christmas wrapping things up and not starting anything new because of the break so everything went easy - peasy!! After lunch we headed out to our favorite weekly hang out - our library!! We came home with about 50 book and several dvds - it was still very cold and rainy, but now we have new books to read!!

Wednesday - School was done again as planned - and finally there was a break in the clouds and although it was still wet and cold we spent some time outside playing! We had way too much energy and needed an outside break!!! We headed to church for worship and got to fellowship with God's people always a highlight to my week.

Thursday - Again school was a breeze - this has probably been the easiest week yet! I think the week off for Thanksgiving gave us all a much needed break and has refocused us. In the afternoon we made Christmas cookies to ring in December 1st and decorated them. Allison cooked them all by herself then we all decorated them. That night we got to go to the Christmas Parade here in town. It was one of the best ones we have had. It was only about 40 degrees so it was not too cold we were wrapped up nice and warm and had a great time.

Friday - Kiddos have gone to my mother in laws for the weekend so hubby and I are catching up on some tv.

Saturday & Sunday - Sat night we have Jonathan's Christmas work party, and the we have church, kiddos come home, and play practice Sunday night!

Over all it was a great week and we are all getting ramped up for the holiday season. I pray that everyone had a great Thanksgiving and are enjoying the holiday season!!!

Weekly Wrap Up

This week has been a good one. I really feel like we accomplished alot this week. Things seem to just get done and that always makes for a good week.

Bible this week was on Creation day 4. Both Allison and Jackson are working really hard at the questions and worksheets. We colored a sun, moon, and stars sheets and answered alot of questions. I am glad that Jackson is learning so much. This is a good review for Allison and really our first formal year using a Bible program. Our hymn for the week was No, Not One. It is one of my favorites and the kiddos enjoyed it.

Allison this week took test 9 in MUS and started lesson 10. She is working really hard at the math. She like to skip steps, so it is making twice the work because she has to correct the problems after attempting them. Hopefully it sinks in soon that she has to do every step every time. Jackson is also flying right along in math we finished lesson 17 and started lesson 18.

Allison worked diligently in her Science and finished up Module 3 in Apologia's General Science. She has a test on Monday and she is pretty sure she will do well. The science experiments earlier this week were fun, and she enjoyed them. Jackson always enjoyes doing a science experiment and this week we made it through activity 9 & 10.

Jackson's reading is moving more slowly than I would like, but he is understanding how to sound out words. He gets frustrated and claims he has no clue occasionally, but I understand I need patience in this area and we keep working. I borrowed some Bob Books from the library and Jack has read book 1 & 2 this week and is very proud of himself. Allison finished her book this week The Hobbit. She really liked it when it was all said and done, but said that Bilbo should have kept traveling and that the ending was boring.

In our Beautiful Feet Geography Allison wrapped up lesson 3 and will start working on lesson 4 next week. The maps are just beautiful and she had a good time doing the research.

We did many many other things during the week. We were working on reding up the house because our Sunday School Class Social will be here tomorrow. We are all so excited! Hope everyone else had a great week!

Weekly Wrap Up

This has been a busy week for us - who am I kidding they all seem busy to me ;o) We took Monday off since Dad was home and we all spent time working on little projects around the house. Allison and I painted a few things, and Jackson and Dad worked on fixing what needed to be done. Since it rained all day Monday the deck was temporarily abandoned.

School has gone well this week. We started back on Tuesday and finished up today. We are using Lamp & Quill for Bible and we really enjoyed it this week. I love to hear Jack and Allison discussing what we have read. We always pray before school and their prayer life really seems to be growing.

Math-u-see we had another wonderful week. Allison finished section 7 and is half way through with section 8. Jackson cleared units 14 and 15. This is really a great program out there for anyone who was wondering. This is our first year and we are loving it. Also my MUS book for Alpha for Jack came today. I purchased the teacher book and DVD used so great score!

Allison moved into her geography using Beautiful Feet Books. She is really loving it. She said she thinks it is her new favorite subject. Which is really saying something since this week was a Science week! She got through lesson 1 and did the questions and map work. The maps are really beautiful.

This week as you can see from my other post was one about science. I still have another experiment that Jackson did to post and Allison also did her 2.3 experiment in Apologia General Science. I forgot to get pictures unfortunately or I would post them too. We have had great fun with Science.

Allison is still plugging away at the Hobbit and enjoying it. We only do one chapter a day and then she does plenty of free reading throughout the day. She is alot like me in the sense that she likes to read and finishes a couple books a week!

Jackson and I are also working on Reddy Fox and we have almost made it through. I think we have 2 more days of reading and we will be moving on. Allison and I have enjoyed this story moreso than Jackson, but Jackson has been showing more interest in it. We made a Reddy Fox mask this week as part of craft time!

Thats about it ... the kiddos are heading to Granny's for the weekend so that hopefully hubby and I can wrap up this deck and maybe even move a few bushes around who knows?!?!?! I hope everyone has had an excellent week!

Weekly Wrap Up & The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week… Man this has been a busy week!!! We started taking down our old deck to redo it and build stairs. We went to the zoo (for free) and had a great time. Then we painted the dinning room and kitchen. After that it was a business as usual kind of week ;O)
In our homeschool this week... We have kept plugging along. We have decided to go to a 4 day a week schedule which will keep us schooling into June, but both the kiddos are for it so we will give it a try. Jackson has kept plugging along in our Reading Made Easy program and is really starting to see some words. Allison finished the Prince and the Pauper and started reading The Hobbit. I love the Hobbit she thought it would be awful, but by the second day she said she thinks it will be an adventure....Tolkein an adventure .... who would have thought :O) All of our subjects are moving along nicely. We have a nice schedule and it seems to be working for us. I really enjoy homeschooling when we hit that groove where things just work!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share… Patience is the thing I need most. I keep it upfront in my prayers and keep trying to set a good example for my children.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…We made it to the Atlanta Zoo this week which was a blast. Many many trips to Lowes to get what we needed to build the deck and stairs. Today we are headed to the library, bank, and the dump so that we will have everything done so that we can work on the deck starting Saturday morning to give it a good day!

My favorite thing this week was… Finally getting a color that we can live with in the dinning room / kitchen!

What’s working/not working for us… We are all good at the moment.

Questions/thoughts I have… I am looking for ideas for our Christmas Book / Craft a day that I am working on gathering. We plan to start the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve.

Things I’m working on… Pumpkin craft - my husband cut the wood for these, but I have not gotten started. The front door needs a new coat of paint, and I have the stuff to make a candy holder I found on line - but again need more time to finish.

Weekly Update

Gosh we have been quiet?!?!?

This week we started our 4 day week school. It has gone well this first week. The kiddos worked hard Mon-Thurs. We are trying this schedule out and saving Friday for field trips, library runs, and errands. This was our big once a month grocery shopping and we hit Sam's Club and Walmart. I think we left home about 9 am and got completely done by about 4 pm. It was a day!

Jackson is zooming through his math-u-see primer. We finished lesson 10 and 11 this week. We are working through Reading Made Easy, and Jack read his first sentence this week ( a cat sat.) I know real hard but it was something that I have been worried about. He is the first child that I have had the honor of teaching to read. So far it is really exciting!!!!

Allison had a learning week. She took her first Apologia General Science Test and realized it is a little harder than she thought. After I scored it she said she understood better how to study Science and although disappointed in herself, I think she learned and that is what is important. In her math she is also moving along nicely. We completed lesson 5 with test and did great! History we wrapped up Lesson 5 & 6 and will be working to wrap up the Columbus book next week before continuing in our Science.

We have been working on repainting the dinning room (again). I don't think anyone except Jack liked the blue. So this week I have Kilzed the walls again and purchased the new paint (Bleached Wheat). This is a pretty neutral color and so I think it will look nice, be easy to match and if we don't like it I should be able to paint over it with out the primer :O)

Well time for me to get moving got to get ready for church!

Weekly Wrap Up

Wow....This is the first week back to the books for us. It went really smoothly and for that I owe all the praise to God. I was nervous since this was the first week that I was teaching 2 children. (please don't laugh if teach more - I know it can be done, just was not sure I could do it) But things went well. We have a 7th grader and a Kindergartner and since Allison is so much older she completely surprised me that she was mostly independent.

Jackson was my hands on fellow since we are just starting out. I prayed for patience and just let things move at his pace and I really think that was the answer. Everything went smoothly and we covered everything I had planned to cover! For Jackson we are doing Heart of Dakota Little Hands for His Glory + Math-u-see for math and things went really well.

With it still being so warm we spent several afternoons in the pool. Wednesday we made it to the library, and Thursday evening I took the kids to meet Granny. They will be staying there until Monday because I had oral surgery yesterday to remove those nasty wisdom teeth :O)

I would say this was a good start and we are looking forward to next week!!
